Vision-Based Control
(Tech ID 2066)

The need for automation in nuclear materials processing is accepted and many efforts across the DOE are underway to meet this need. View full size imageOne area that is providing a successful implementation path in this effort is the use of vision technology to allow automation to be deployed in a more safe and effective manner. Vision systems can be used to allow the robot to move in the confines of a glovebox, hot cell, or permacon with greater safety. Vision systems can provide accurate information about the confines of the hot environment as well as real-time process of control with operator input. This Research to Development to Application effort will provide the baseline technology for achieving Vision-Based Control of automation in nuclear materials processing environments.
