Sampling End-Effector for West Valley Tanks
(Tech ID 2941)

Click to view full size photoThe West Valley Demonstration Project has been removing sludge successfully using mixer pumps for several years, but has reached the point where most of what remains is a difficult to access heel. The Robotics Crosscut Program is developing a grab sampling end-effector that will allow representative samples of the remaining waste heel to be collected in Tanks 8D-1 and 8D-2. This end-effector will be designed for deployment by the mast tool delivery system and will also include provisions for subsequent transport of the sample to the lab for analysis.
